Similar to an Infrastructure Engineer, as a Highway Engineer you are more likely to be working in a government agency such as a London Borough or the Highway Agency, or an engineering consultancy that provides services for a government agency such as Mott MacDonald, Atkins or Mouchel Parkman.

As a Highway Engineer you will design new highway schemes, including the roads, drainage and storm-water drainage. Projects that a highway engineer will be involved in could range from a high road in a town centre to a new motorway or bypass. You will often be involved in the project from the initial consultation through to the site supervision.
