CAD Technician Jobs |
CAD Technician jobs and vacancies available across the UK:
CAD Technicians produce CAD drawings once the engineers have created the detailed and concept designs. They will usually have attended a design college and will have achieved an HNC or equivalent tertiary education level. The diploma itself could be in a variety of different disciplines including civil engineering, construction or AutoCAD. Often this qualification will be achieved vocationally, the technician spending one day a week at college for two to three years. There are generally two CAD packages that are used in the UK in Structural Engineering. These are AutoCAD and Microstation with AutoCAD being far more widely used. 3D packages as add-ons are becoming more and more prevalent in the larger consultancies as well as more architecturally lead firms. A good CAD Technician can be the vital to a structural engineering consultancy. They will be producing the drawings that eventually will provide the working drawings for a structure and as such accuracy is absolutely vital. A good technician will be able to produce drawings quickly and effectively as well as know what they are actually producing, as opposed to a tracer who will simply be copying the drawings. The employment of technicians happens as a natural part of the growth of any consultancy. The more engineers provide calculations, the more technicians necessary to draw them. Using Technicians on a contract basis when there is a large amount of work to be done is often a flexible approach used by employers. Projects such as CTRL and Terminal 5 are good examples of firms using at times several hundred contract technicians in order to complete large scale schemes and not have a oversized work force when the project comes to an end.
