Council Tax Officer Jobs |
Council tax officer jobs and vacancies are available across the UK. As a Council Tax Officer one of your main tasks is to keep the database showing taxpayers’ details up to date. One main focus as a Council Tax Officer is to conduct an annual survey. This is to check that all residents’ circumstances are still the same as some people forget to let the council know when they move house, altering their eligibility for exemptions or discounts. Once this survey is complete you will then send out bills for tax. Some council tax officers also staff a counter where people can come to ask questions or discuss their tax.
As a Council tax officer you must be accurate with good attention to detail, able to follow precisely detailed procedures, good written and verbal communicators, with a good telephone manner, capable of working without close supervision and able to use their initiative, able to prioritise work in order to meet deadlines and willing to work in a team. There are no standard entry requirements. Most councils however, ask for a minimum of four GCSEs/S grades at C/3 or above, including English and maths. Equivalent qualifications such as NVQs/SVQs or Intermediate GNVQ/GSVQ level 2 in Business or relevant experience are usually acceptable alternatives.
