Castlebeck has over 20 years’ experience providing our own unique specialist healthcare and rehabilitation services for adults with learning disabilities, significant challenging behaviour and associated complex needs. We also provide specialist treatment centres for people with autistic spectrum disorders and associated challenging behaviour. We aim to achieve the maximum potential for the people in our care in relation to their needs, aspirations and difficulties, based on our core service principles of Commitment, Development and Value. Our ethos is one of reward and encouragement rather than criticism and containment. Individuals are typically referred to us by Social Workers or Psychiatrists, and our customers include many NHS and Local Authorities. Castlebeck provides diverse healthcare and rehabilitation services for people aged 18 and over with learning disabilities, significant challenging behaviour and complex needs, including those detained under the respective Mental Heath Acts of England and Scotland. Currently over 280 people are supported country-wide in a range of care settings.
Traditionally our services have been based around a 'Hub and Spoke' model, with admission and assessment of people generally occurring at a time when they are least settled and requiring most intense levels of support. Because each person presents with complex needs and highly challenging behaviour the aim is to achieve stability within our acute services ('Hubs' - Independent hospitals) while working with them to progress towards the least restrictive option possible for that person at any particular point of time in their lives. To facilitate this progression, we operate residential and 'step down' services. Each level creates opportunities for people to continue along their own care pathways, at a pace that suits them, towards less intense treatment environments. Although we are recognised for our Independent Hospitals, our residential community-facing services have been in existence since 1989. |
