Hamilton Associates is a design-led architectural practice based in Chelsea, London. Over the past thirty seven years they have built up considerable experience of many building types including offices, business parks, industrial, retail, residential, hotels, leisure and education. |
| Their one hundred and twenty staff serve a client base drawn mainly from the corporate and commercial sectors. Long term relationships with their clients lead to a high percentage of projects coming to them on a repeat-order basis. |
Their guiding principles are:- - To seek to understand their client’s objectives and then work hard to exceed expectations.
- To analyse each opportunity from first principles to create uniquely appropriate solutions.
- To be efficient, as well as effective, by specialising at all levels.
- To care for their staff and encourage them to reach their full potential by helping them develop clear career paths.
The firm has a flat and transparent management structure - with as few rules as possible! A steering group monitors and co-ordinates the policy and direction of the firm. The directors meet weekly to discuss new opportunities and the firm’s resources in relation to work load. Monthly directors meetings are held to discuss more general issues. Each director develops a client base in one or more of the chosen sectors. Associates are in charge of the day to day operation of the firm. They contribute to the development of project briefs and initial designs. They also specialise in one of the chosen sectors. Project Architects are responsible for delivering the projects. They and other senior staff are encouraged to develop special skills both in building types as well as in construction technology.
Hamiltons have a Support Group which carries out the following functions:- - Staff: Recruitment; Career Development; Welfare; and, deployment of staff to projects.
- Project Management: Systems management; project audits; project programmes; technical and risk management reviews.
- Technical Design: Support on a day-to-day basis to project teams involving R & D as necessary; integration of internal and external specialist support; specification writing; monthly technical bulletins.
