Reporting to the Design & Estimating Manager the role of Protection & Control Design Engineer will the successful applicant working as part of a larger design and estimating team, produce protection and control designs from 11kV up to and including 132kV for a number of UK DNO clients and private network operators. KEY ACTIVITIES; - Ensure that policies, Client specific policy, techniques and operational documents are effectively communicated and understood. - Providing technical advice to the contract and business. - Working with manufacturers, service providers and procurement to drive down costs. - Taking part in factory quality audits. - Witnessing type testing or factory acceptance testing of new equipment. - Select and specify raw materials and key components. - Prepare designs, drawings and Bills of Materials. - Product testing when required. - Compile and maintain an engineering library to include technical reports, supplier and raw material information, design data and methods. - Maintain the drawing and design database. - Operate in accordance with the requirements of ISO9000/2000 audited quality system. - Compilation and control of all relevant product design files. MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES OF ROLE; - Design and preparation of protection and control schemes against specific clients' standards and requirements. - Preparation of general arrangements, schematics, telecontrol schedules, wiring diagrams and multicore cable schedules. - Provide support to the estimating department - specifying relays for projects, pricing relay panels etc. - Preparation of site drawing packages and issue. - Answering technical queries from site and problem solving in a timely manner. - Ensuring design projects are delivered on time, working within part of a larger design team, liaising as necessary. - Providing design support during the tendering process for complex projects.
