Job description

A leading interiors/Ceilings and Partition contractor with a national presence are recruiting for a Quantity Surveyor to join the busy East Midlands office.

This is a fantastic opportunity to join an established business that are experiencing a sustained period of growth.

Job Purpose:
Responsible for helping to commercially manage projects on programme and on budget.

Main Duties and Responsibilities:
- Participates in preparing prelim spreadsheets prior to the Managers Pre-Start meeting
- Participates in the procurement of Sub Contractors as required
- Assists in the procurement of site materials, with reference to budget against costs
- Ensures the full implementation of Company Commercial Systems - both electronic filing and site records
- Takes off quantities from drawing.
- Carries out basic site measures for Applications and Variations
- Checks sub-contractors Applications.
- Attends and reports at internal site progress meeting.
- Enters variations and site instructions into Applications for Payment.
- Enters Time Sheets for review by the SPQS.
- Prices Daywork Sheets.
- Re-measures from construction drawing using on-centre and manual take-off.
- Prices variations for review and submits them.
- Checks materials are in line with estimate
- Attends CVR meetings
- Attends Internal Site Progress Meetings
- Helps in the preparation of Applications for Payment
- Prepares cost budgets and monitors cost spend against these- Monitors the prelim schedule with the SPQS
- Produces the man-hours reports out of Roger for the Programme and Progress
- Calculates Plot / Sub-Zone prices for the SPQS.
- Makes recommendations to improve processes, procedures and productivity.
- Acts in accordance with the companies values and as a role model for other company staff
- Assists in the mentoring and training of less experienced and new staff

Qualifications, Experience & Capabilities

Qualifications: An HNC or working towards one CSCS Card current driving licence
Experience: Working in a similar role, within a sub-contracting or principle contracting environment.
Capabilities: All Core Capabilities apply
- the following are critical for this role:
-Technical Expertise/Knowledge:
- the differences between priced works and day works, and when they are appropriate- basic site based paperwork e.g. CVI, RFI, VO, QA etc.
- basics of construction Drawings.
- the sub-contractor payment cycle.
- the role of the Quantity Surveyor within a Sub-contracting business. - the difference between value and cost.
- basics of Form of Contract and contracts in general
- CVR processes and procedures
- implications of extensions of time, prolongations, accelerations, and disruption claims

Working conditions
-The role is both office and site based, and will require travelling to the various offices throughout the country.

Salary/Package:Competitive and depends on experience.The company will also consider an Assistant QS or a QS about to make the step up to Quantity Surveyor.
