Senior Commercial Manager
Job description
Our client currently has a position for a Senior Commercial Manager to take responsibility for a prestigious contract across South Wales.
This role would suit candidates looking to move from a Senior Quantity Surveyor or Commercial Managers role in either a construction, building services or facilities management environment
Summary of Role:
Reports to Divisional Commercial Director. Main responsibility-
- Lead the commercial function on the project or within the sector for which they are responsible.
- Ensure the timely provision of accurate commercial reports and data to the business.
- Pursue own professional development and provide guidance and support to develop other commercial staff
- Ensure compliance and adherence of the project or sector team with the processes and procedures
Ability to report where necessary at board level.
Tasks & Responsibilities:
- Develop a good understanding of the wider aspects of Health, Safety and Environmental law affecting a Facilities business
- Ensure the implementation of the requirements of Health Safety, Quality and Environmental procedures and ensure that the project teams conduct all duties in a manner consistent with these
- Highly competent in the application of IT skills to financial problems and the production of project documentation.
- Maintain a wide knowledge of business systems to manage and present business information
- Make best use of knowledge management systems
- Use the CAFM platform to demonstrate our value to our clients.
- Have a clear understanding of the benefits and outputs available from our IT tools.
- Share best practice and knowledge of using the IT platforms with the wider Commercial team.
- Act upon the Management Information available from our IT records to drive commercial improvement through the project.
- Develop awareness of company resources and capabilities available to assist Customers regarding the delivery of new opportunities
- Work with Divisional teams to develop and appraise investment cases to identify potential company returns and added value to the business
- Work with Divisional teams and the business development teams to contribute to a strategy to secure new opportunities
- Understand the impact of commercial and technical changes at strategic level within the customers business industry / sector
- Maintain own knowledge base of company working practices and industry as a whole and champion development of other commercial staff
- Drive the commercial team to Identify, manage, reduce and drive out unnecessary costs and inefficient activities
- Maximise cash flow through ensuring the timely preparation of valuations, submission of invoices and receipt of payment
- Work with supply chain to promote and measure continuous improvement in terms of cost, quality and learning of all parties
- Manage the production of timely accounts for use in managing the business
- Manage the production of accurate and timely financial forecasts for use in setting targets
- Establish and maintain accurate and robust reporting structures and monitor resources and costs to ensure that projects meet and / or exceed targets
- Maintain commercial, technical, legal and insurance knowledge to high levels of current knowledge
- Demonstrates and maintains a high level of commercial and technical knowledge and works closely with the delivery team to review techniques and solutions to meet business and customer needs
- Ensure / provide support to Divisional Teams to ensure that the company commercial position is protected using in depth understanding and experience of contractual, commercial, insurance and legal processes
- Early identification of business risks in projects and ensuring that risk management, risk registers and contingency are in place to manage a minimise risk
- Manage prompt preparation and settlement of final accounts.
- Ensuring materials and suppliers are procured in an efficient manner with capable organisations in accordance with company procurement policy and procedures and ensure appropriate records are kept.
- Adopt a major part of concluding client negotiations
- Comprehensive understanding of the requirements of the company quality policy and procedures and how these are applied to individuals own role.
- Ability to develop new ideas and developing it into a different approach
- Champion company commercial processes as well as lean management strategies and procedures on projects in order to maximise returns in terms of profit and business value
- Manage the close out projects efficiently using a high degree of understanding and working knowledge of project close out processes
- Takes responsibility for management of commercial resources
- Establish meaningful goals and objectives
- Identify and develop the maximum potential of your teams
- Have a full understanding of TUPE and pension regulations and their impact on the business.
- Have a clear understanding of the issues associated with managing and running labour intensive projects
Qualifications:
Degree or equivalent on Quantity Surveying or similar.
Professional Membership:
RICS desired.
Relevant Experience:
Extensive experience in a similar role.
