Housing SHE Advisor
Do you want to play a key role in a team responsible for protecting and maintaining health, safety, wellbeing and environmental issues to our staff and the public, as well as fulfilling obligations in relation to house building projects?

You will be responsible for supporting a well known regional housebuilder in a health, safety and environment role to comply with all relevant health safety and environmental regulations and laws.


The position
* Reviewing and assessing current health safety and environmental practices against current regulations and laws
* Visiting sites as part of continuous monitoring
* Advising on health safety and environmental risks for new projects
* Collecting and reporting on HS and E data.
* Inspecting sites and assisting H&S manager with H&S compliance
* Auditing environmental targets and managing environmental compliance
* Keeping abreast of latest health safety and environmental guidance and regulations
* Reporting non-compliance
* Leading on environmental accidents and issues


Key responsibilities
* Assist H&S Manager in providing pre-construction information to the principal contractor/contractor or where not directly involved in a project, advise others on its suitability and completeness to meet legal requirements
* Attending pre-start and progress meetings, providing advice and guidance
* Ensuring that prior to commencement of construction work on a project that a suitable construction phase plan is in place or advise others on its suitability
* Where standards are unacceptable, advise the project manager/engineer to stop works on site and advise all parties on steps required to enable them to recommence
* Where there is a material breach of health safety and environmental law, standards pose a significant risk to health, safety and welfare or other appropriate reasons, stop works on site and advise all parties on steps required to enable them to recommence
* Provide advice to project teams on action required where projects do not meet the Authority's standards
* Being an exemplar in safety, health and environmental management and promoting a positive culture within the business
* Assist in the development and review of the company's SHE policies and procedures including CDM
* To assist with and complete accident/incident investigation and when required complete RIDDOR reports
* Working as part of the health safety and environmental team, reporting into the H&S manager and production director on key targets and issues
* Ensuring improvement actions are implemented to requirements, monitored and continuously assessed
* Communicating health safety and environmental requirements across the organisation

Key skills
* Understanding of core health safety and environmental principles and regulations
* Solid communication skills, both verbal and written
* Strong IT abilities
* Driving licence required
* Influencing and good relationship building skills
* Passion for health safety environment and sustainability
* Can work to deadlines and under pressure

Qualifications
Nebosh National Construction (or equivalent) certified professional with demonstrable experience working on a wide range of SHE projects within a multi-disciplinary organisation. You will also have membership of IOSH (minimum Technical grade).
Experience in similar job role required. Some common requirements include:
* Competence in investigations into health safety and environmental incidents
* Proven ability to champion health safety and environmental causes within similar organisations and lead on best practice
* Addressing health safety and environment issues including air quality, land and water contamination, waste management, and environmental impact.
* Ensuring regulations are complied with
* Liaising with site teams, clients, stakeholders and the wider health safety and environmental team.
