Job description

Environmental Health Officer required

This is an exciting opportunity for an Environmental Health Officer to take the role of technical lead in our clients Business Regulation Team.

The team deals with a range of Environmental Health regulatory functions in commercial premises. The successful candidate will primarily focus on commercial pollution prevention and control work. This will include engagement at all stages of the development and operational phases of businesses, development of commercial pollution projects and other commercial case work including noise and nuisance investigation, construction site controls and advisory work.

The role involves supporting a small team

Lead in the relevant reactive and programmed elements of the team's work and provide professional advice to colleagues.

Manage personal casework and projects on accordance with the Service's procedures including preparing the necessary evidence to take appropriate enforcement decisions and appearing in court in support of legal proceedings when necessary.

Provide expert technical and professional advice and support to the Team Manager on relevant work areas in the Business Regulation Team and to contribute to service project teams as required.

Essential Criteria

Degree or equivalent qualification in Environmental Health
Certificate of Registration from the Environmental Health Registration Board (EHRB)
Extensive experience of enforcement of commercial pollution prevention & control legislation in a range of premises
Experience of coaching, directing and assisting lower graded or less experienced members of staff
Experience of attending committees, inquiries/court hearings etc. on casework and related regulatory matters
Experience of managing a mixed caseload and producing significant outcomes against performance targets with minimum supervision.
