A large multidisciplinary consultancy based within the city of London is looking to recruit a Senior Digital Engineer (Controls) to join their award winning MEP Design Office.
The business predominately work on large commercial build and mixed use developments across new build and fit out. The business also has an award winning mission critical division. This role will sit across all three divisions.
Your skill set within smart buildings / BMS Controls will enable you to provide new build clients first class advice on how to integrate their building needs as well as provide solutions to occupiers within existing builds. Working across each division will enable you to offer many design solutions to a variety of different sector clients.
The business has recently been focusing its efforts on further developing its smart buildings offering and is now at a stage to expand its current team into 2021.
You will ideally have 5+ years experience within Building Services, solid smart buildings / BMS experience and have the ability to deliver projects and handle a diverse project load.
Role Purpose
As a member of the Digital Building team in the London office you will cover various sectors including, but not limited to Commercial, Residential, Hotel, Retail, Industrial, Laboratories and Data Centres. You will be responsible for:
- Co-ordination of smart building and controls design with other building services disciplines and with external parties such as architect or client delivery
- Review and comment on contractor technical
- Participate in business related activities (non-Project)
- Participate in developing the Digital and Smart buildings sector
- Feed into the other digital disciplines of ICT and physical
- Co-ordinate with contractors and manufacturers both on technical and a sales
- Participate in project activities including design, specification and
- Ensure that Quality System is implemented and maintained on
- Take part in personal and professional development training as
- Participate in the Performance Management Process and maintenance of individual Thrive assessment and development
- Develop project co-ordination skills in line with work
Key Accountabilities:
Key Result Area 1:
Finance - focusing on commercial results and delivering value to our business Accountabilities
- Provide input for job costing (e.g. - timesheets, fee allocations and charges, work percentage complete, forecast work required) and time plans for your project input in consultation with Manager and Project
- Co-ordinate and plan commitments, resources and balance workload across available projects to efficiently and effectively meet project deadlines and cost/fee requirements. Monitor workload and advise line manager where additional skills are required, and when over/under utilisation is likely to
Key Result Area 2:
Engineering & Operations - delivering technical excellence Accountabilities
- Work under the guidance and mentorship of a Senior Engineer on a project from initial concept through to completion. Contribute to the project activities as per project specifications to ensure the efficient implementation of the project activities.
- Contribute to the overall design work of allocated projects that will include particular responsibility for the Discipline Services and the coordination of all other Services as applicable.
- Ensure full conversancy with the relevant aspects of the design of the Project under control and co-ordinate the work to the required standard in line with our clients Project Management methodology.
- Review technical submissions by Contractors and Sub-Contractors and the quality of construction against the specified requirements and statutory standards.
- Undertake Construction Administration on projects
- Ensure all design work is carried out to the required standards of accuracy with specific regard to our clients Quality Assurance, Design Guides and Practice Notes and appropriate statutory regulations and codes of practice. Review the quality of construction against the specified requirements.

- Manage our clients involvement in projects so that work is completed efficiently whilst meeting client needs.
- Develop and maintain good working relationships with internal and external stakeholders including clients to ensure long term business partnerships.
- Identify and engage clients and key stakeholders, ensuring that expectations are known, managed and fulfilled, within program and project constraints. Liaise with Contractors and Sub-Contractors to follow up and resolve construction-related issues.
- Participate in team meetings to review and discuss client requirements, progress of project.
- Attend site meetings as appropriate and report on the status of the work and any items of concern.
- Ensure clients' requirements, deliverables and level of documentation is clearly defined with
sufficient pre-notification.
Experience:
- At least two years' engineering experience in the field of building controls or integration.
- Demonstrable experience writing specifications, controls software or commissioning.
- Site experience of building networks both IP and Serial.
- Site experience of building communication protocols such as BACnet or Modbus.
- Additional Skills:
- Ability to read and understand panel designs and schematics.
- A working interest in IT and other computer systems.
- An interest in Internet of Things (IoT) technology and protocols such as MQTT.
- Ability to effectively communicate with staff at all levels including a proven ability to communicate with technical staff across multiple disciplines.
- Ability to effectively communicate with clients.
