The Role
As an Associate Mechanical Engineer, you'll play a leadership role in the design and delivery of major projects across mission-critical sectors such as aviation, healthcare, and defence. Youll work closely with a multi-disciplinary team, managing engineers across all levels and serving as a key client contact.
Your Responsibilities
Lead and contribute to the mechanical design process across feasibility, concept, detailed design, and construction stages
Provide technical leadership on significant projects, integrating sustainability, digital engineering, and smart systems into designs
Represent the company in client-facing engagements, ensuring that deliverables are aligned with expectations and timelines
Collaborate with other MEP professionals and internal BIM and Sustainability teams to deliver holistic building services solutions
Supervise and mentor graduate, assistant, and senior engineers
Oversee project planning, resource allocation, and technical quality control
Support the development of business opportunities and maintain strong client relationships
About the Team
The team comprises 35 engineers spanning Mechanical, Electrical, and Public Health disciplines
You'll be part of a close-knit unit with flexible access to offices in Guildford, Basingstoke, Heathrow, Brighton, and Southampton
Projects include high-profile works at Heathrow and Gatwick Airports, Royal Berkshire Hospital, and multiple complex private and public sector developments
You'll report directly to the Technical Director - Mechanical, with support from principal, senior, and junior engineers
What Youll Bring
A proven ability to manage and deliver mechanical design projects in the UK
Experience leading multi-disciplinary teams and mentoring junior staff
Knowledge of UK mechanical building services design standards and compliance requirements
Strong client-facing communication skills and commercial awareness
Creativity, resilience, and a problem-solving mindset
Confidence applying digital tools, sustainable practices, and modern construction methods

Role Overview
A unique opportunity has arisen for an experienced Associate Mechanical Engineer to join a growing, forward-thinking building services consultancy based in London. With a strong emphasis on collaborative working, sustainability, and innovative design, this role will suit an ambitious individual who is passionate about making a tangible impact on the built environment.
Key Responsibilities
Provide project leadership across complex, high-value projects, working closely with multidisciplinary teams, contractors, and clients to ensure successful delivery.
Mentor and support the development of junior engineers, helping to build a high-performing, motivated team.
Build and nurture strong client relationships to identify ongoing project opportunities.
Prepare and oversee fee proposals, project forecasting, financial reporting, and subcontractor management.
Promote a positive and collaborative team culture that reflects the firms values of creativity, accountability, and independence.
Person Specification
Currently operating at Principal or Associate level within a building services consultancy environment.
Chartered Engineer (CEng MCIBSE) or working towards chartership.
Proven track record of delivering high-quality, complex projects in sectors such as education, residential, healthcare, heritage, and commercial.
Strong leadership and people management skills, with experience mentoring junior team members.
Excellent interpersonal and client-facing skills with the ability to develop and maintain long-term client relationships.
Competent in fee proposal preparation, financial management, and project forecasting.
A creative problem-solver with a proactive, solutions-focused approach.
Strong IT skills, including proficiency with engineering design software and BIM platforms.
Package
£65,000 - £80,000 salary depending on experience
Performance-related bonus

9-day fortnight (every other Friday off)
