Are you an experienced Electrical Design Engineer looking to take the next step in your career? My client is seeking a talented and motivated Principal Electrical Design Engineer to lead and contribute to a wide range of building services projects. This is an excellent opportunity to join a dynamic multidisciplinary team and play a key role in delivering high-profile projects across sectors including aviation, healthcare, and commercial developments.
About the Role
As a Principal Engineer, you will:
* Lead electrical design elements across multidisciplinary projects and take overall responsibility for the successful delivery of your discipline.
* Demonstrate a proven track record in winning and delivering projects, with clear examples of your personal impact.
* Operate independently across all technical aspects of electrical building services design, using your initiative and specialist knowledge.
* Interpret client requirements and project briefs to provide high-quality, compliant, and innovative design solutions.
* Provide leadership within a multidisciplinary MEP team and work closely with project managers to deliver results.
* Supervise and mentor other engineers and ensure quality and consistency in detailed designs and technical documentation.
* Evaluate project feasibility and lead technical studies and performance specifications.
* Regularly brief and coordinate the design team and review programme requirements and resource allocation.
Your Team and Environment
* Join a team of approximately 35 engineers covering Mechanical, Electrical, and Public Health disciplines.
* Collaborate with experienced engineers at all levels, along with dedicated BIM and Sustainability specialists.
* Be part of a supportive and knowledge-sharing environment with opportunities to contribute to major infrastructure and building projects.
What my client is looking for
* Degree in Building Services Engineering or a related discipline (or equivalent relevant experience).
* Progression towards Chartered Engineer status with IET or CIBSE, or already chartered.
* Deep understanding of building services regulations and the ability to apply them in design through robust calculations.
* Proficiency in industry-standard electrical design tools and software.
* Familiarity with RevitMEP or similar 3D design software.
* Excellent communication skills, with the ability to present and explain technical concepts to clients and stakeholders.
* Strong leadership skills and experience mentoring junior team members.
Technical Expertise Required
* Low voltage distribution systems
* Standby generation and UPS systems
* Electrical cable and lighting calculations (software and manual)
* Small power systems
* Fire alarms and emergency systems
* Intruder detection and access control systems
* Disabled call systems
* Structured data cabling
* Lightning protection design
