As a result of their continued growth, an award-winning, independent Building Services Design Consultancy, with offices around the UK, are looking for a Senior Building Physics Engineer to join either their London or Oxford office. This individual will bring with them expertise in thermal modelling and environmental analysis and will be instrumental in driving forward their sustainability offering.
They offer a range of services including mechanical and electrical engineering, sustainability, building physics, and Passivhaus design, across diverse sectors including heritage, cultural, education, healthcare, residential, and commercial.

The Role
As a Senior Building Physics Engineer, you will play a central role in delivering high-quality building performance analysis and guiding design teams towards low-energy, net zero, and climate-resilient outcomes.
You will work closely with colleagues across their different offices and will lead technical assessments, mentor junior engineers, and liaise with clients and architects to deliver solutions that balance energy efficiency, comfort, and sustainability. This is a client-facing role that offers excellent scope for professional growth, with a clear pathway to Principal Consultant .

Key Responsibilities
- Deliver thermal modelling and energy assessments using IES software, including Part L compliance and energy strategies.
- Conduct SAP assessments for residential projects, ensuring compliance with SAP10 methodology and future homes standards.
- Carry out overheating analysis and advise on mitigation strategies for a wide range of building types.
- Undertake daylight and sunlight analysis, supporting planning applications and optimising building design.
- Prepare clear and robust technical reports for planning submissions, building control, and client presentations.
- Attend design team and client meetings, providing confident, professional, and practical advice.
- Mentor and train graduates and junior engineers, helping them develop building physics skills and modelling expertise.
- Collaborate with sustainability engineers, M&E engineers, and external consultants to integrate building physics within wider project delivery.

For this role they are looking for an enthusiastic, detail-driven consultant who combines technical expertise with strong communication skills.

Essential qualifications & experience
- A degree in Building Services Engineering, Architectural Engineering, Environmental Design, or a related discipline.
- Minimum 3-5 years' experience in a building physics / sustainability consultancy role.
- Proven expertise with IES VE software and Part L compliance modelling.
- Strong working knowledge of SAP assessments, SAP10 methodology, and UK building regulations.
- Experience in overheating and daylight analysis, using industry-standard methods and tools.
- Excellent technical report writing and presentation skills.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines.

Desirable experience
- Knowledge of Passivhaus principles and PHPP modelling.
- WLCA knowledge and experience.
- BREEAM knowledge and experience.
- A UK driving licence.

What you'll do
* Deliver high-quality building physics analysis across all stages of design, from early concept to detailed design and construction.
* Undertake dynamic thermal simulations, energy modelling, and overheating analysis to inform design decisions.
* Support operational energy modelling and compliance with Part L, TM52, TM54, and TM59.
* Use tools such as IES-VE to develop robust building performance strategies.
* Contribute to projects requiring NABERS / Design for Performance modelling and ApacheHVAC simulations (desirable).
* Advise design teams on energy efficiency, thermal comfort, and passive design strategies.
* Represent the consultancy in design team meetings, confidently challenging and influencing architects and consultants to drive low-carbon outcomes.
* Mentor and support junior engineers in their technical and professional development.
* Collaborate with colleagues across global offices to share knowledge and deliver innovative solutions.

About you
* Degree in Engineering, Building Physics, or a related discipline.
* 5+ years' experience in building physics and performance modelling.
* Strong knowledge of IES-VE (essential).
* Experience with ApacheHVAC and NABERS/Design for Performance modelling is desirable but not essential.
* Proven ability to deliver UK compliance modelling and building performance studies.
* Excellent communication skills, with the confidence to engage clients and influence design teams.
* Passion for sustainability and innovation in the built environment.
* Chartered Engineer status (or working towards) is desirable.

You'll be part of a consultancy that blends rigorous analytics with clear, client-facing advice.

What you'll do
* Deliver dynamic thermal simulations and energy modelling (e.g., IES-VE) to inform design decisions and compliance.
* Undertake overheating assessments (TM52/TM59), operational energy studies (e.g., TM54), and Part L/SAP/SBEM compliance.
* Produce energy and carbon strategies for planning and concept design, aligning recommendations with net-zero pathways.
* Translate model outputs into clear, client-ready advice present at design team meetings and stakeholder workshops.
* Support post-planning/delivery stages (parameter updates, optimisation, POE alignment) to close the "performance gap."

What you'll bring
* 4+ years (Intermediate) or 6+ years (Senior) in building physics/energy modelling within consultancy or design teams.
* Proficiency in IES-VE (or similar), with a track record in thermal/energy modelling and UK compliance.
* Strong grasp of UK frameworks and guidance (Part L, TM52/54/59 awareness of LETI/GLA helpful).
