Are you a highly technical Mechanical Building Services professional with experience delivering complex data centre projects for major hyperscalers such as AWS or Microsoft?

We are seeking an experienced Mechanical Project Director to join a leading consultancy in Dublin, Ireland. This is an exciting opportunity for a professional looking to relocate internationally and take on a senior leadership position within the mission-critical sector.

The ideal candidate will combine strong mechanical engineering expertise with exceptional client-facing skills and the confidence to engage directly with major hyperscalers, contractors and other key stakeholders.

The Opportunity

As Mechanical Project Director, you will provide senior technical leadership across complex data centre and mission-critical projects, working closely with high-profile clients and engineering teams.

Although this is not a hands-on design role, a strong mechanical design background is essential. You will oversee technical delivery, guide engineering teams, review design solutions and ensure projects meet the highest standards of quality and performance.

Experience working directly on projects for AWS, Microsoft or other major hyperscalers is highly desirable, particularly where you have been involved in client meetings, technical reviews, design coordination or project delivery.

Key Responsibilities

- Provide technical leadership and oversight across complex mechanical building services and data centre projects.
- Manage senior-level client relationships, confidently engaging with hyperscalers such as AWS and Microsoft.
- Represent the consultancy in client meetings, technical presentations and project reviews.
- Provide technical direction and guidance to multidisciplinary engineering teams.
- Review and challenge mechanical design solutions, ensuring technical accuracy, compliance and quality.
- Oversee project delivery, managing technical risks, programme requirements and client expectations.
- Coordinate with contractors, consultants and client-side engineering teams to resolve complex technical challenges.
- Maintain strong relationships with key industry stakeholders and contribute to long-term client partnerships.

What Were Looking For

- Extensive experience in Mechanical Building Services Engineering, ideally within the data centre or mission-critical sector.
- A strong technical design background, with the ability to provide engineering oversight without personally producing designs.
- Proven experience at Project Director, Technical Director, Associate Director or a comparable senior level.
- Experience delivering data centre projects for AWS, Microsoft or other major hyperscalers, with an understanding of their technical requirements, standards and expectations.
- Demonstrable experience engaging directly with hyperscaler clients and senior stakeholders.
- Excellent communication, presentation and relationship-management skills.
- The ability to lead technical discussions, challenge engineering solutions and confidently represent the business.
- Established industry contacts within the data centre sector would be a significant advantage.

Work-winning and formal business development experience are not essential. However, candidates with existing relationships at AWS, Microsoft, Winthrop or other major data centre clients may be considered for a higher salary within the available range.

Relocation Package

- Salary: €100,000-€150,000, depending on experience and industry connections.
- Sign-on bonus: Available as part of the relocation opportunity.
- Location: Dublin, Ireland.
- Relocation opportunity: Open to suitable candidates currently based in South Africa, with relocation arrangements to be discussed.
