An established and growing building services consultancy is looking to appoint a Senior Mechanical Engineer to join its team.
With over 30 years of industry experience, the business delivers MEP and sustainability solutions across the commercial, residential, education, retail, hospitality, leisure, mixed-use and mission-critical sectors throughout the UK.
The Role
Youll play a key role in the delivery of prestigious projects ranging from large commercial developments and complex mixed-use schemes through to education campuses, residential developments and business-critical facilities.

Senior Mechanical Design Engineer (MEP)
Remote | South Africa | UK Projects | Contract / Freelance
We are working with a highly respected UK multidisciplinary consultancy with over 50 years' experience delivering integrated design, engineering, and consultancy services across the built environment. Their work spans commercial, residential, healthcare, education, and public sector projects throughout the UK.
Due to continued growth, they are seeking an experienced Senior Mechanical Design Engineer (MEP) to join their Building Services team on a remote contract/freelance basis from South Africa.
The Role
You will take a lead role in delivering mechanical building services design across a diverse portfolio of UK projects, providing technical input, coordination, and design leadership from concept through to detailed design stages.
Key Responsibilities
* Lead mechanical design development for HVAC and building services systems
* Produce and review calculations, specifications, reports, and technical drawings
* Ensure compliance with UK Building Regulations and relevant industry standards
* Coordinate design with electrical, structural, and architectural teams
* Provide technical guidance to junior engineers and project teams
* Attend and contribute to design and coordination meetings (remote)
* Support project delivery across all design stages (RIBA stages or equivalent)
Requirements
* Degree in Mechanical Engineering or Building Services Engineering
* Strong experience in MEP / Building Services design within consultancy environment
* Solid background in HVAC design and mechanical systems for buildings
* Experience working on UK projects is highly advantageous
* Proficiency with relevant software (e.g. IES, Hevacomp,or similar)
* Strong technical knowledge of UK regulations and standards
* Ability to work independently in a remote freelance/contract capacity
* Excellent communication and leadership skills
