The RoleYou'll take a leading role in the delivery of mechanical building services projects, from early-stage concept through to detailed design and delivery.
You'll be involved in developing mechanical strategies, carrying out design calculations, producing specifications and technical information, and coordinating designs with the wider project team.
You'll also have regular opportunities to work directly with clients and design teams, giving you the chance to build strong relationships and take real ownership of your projects.
The ProjectsThe Manchester team works across a diverse portfolio of major projects across the wider North West including healthcare, education, commercial, transport, science and research, sport and regeneration.
Sustainability is central to the wider practice, with a strong focus on energy efficiency, low-carbon design, building performance and creating more resilient buildings.
About YouYou'll be an experienced Mechanical Engineer with a strong background in building services design and a good understanding of delivering projects within a multidisciplinary consultancy environment.
You'll ideally be Chartered or working towards Chartership, with experience taking responsibility for your own projects and supporting more junior engineers.
Strong communication skills are important, as you'll be working closely with clients, architects and other consultants.
Experience with Revit and relevant mechanical design software would be beneficial.

The Role
As a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer, you will be responsible for delivering high-quality mechanical designs, engineering calculations and technical documentation across data centre projects.
You will work closely with multidisciplinary engineering teams, developing practical and technically robust solutions throughout the design process. This is a hands-on design role, ideal for someone who enjoys getting into the technical detail and taking ownership of their work.
Key Responsibilities
* Deliver Mechanical Design and Engineering solutions for data centre and mission-critical projects.
* Produce mechanical calculations, specifications, layouts and technical documentation.
* Develop designs for HVAC, chilled water systems, cooling systems, ventilation and associated mechanical infrastructure.
* Work across concept, developed design and detailed design stages.
* Coordinate mechanical designs with electrical, architectural and other engineering disciplines.
* Carry out design reviews and ensure technical quality across project deliverables.
* Support the development of BIM/Revit models and coordinated design information where required.
* Ensure designs comply with relevant standards, regulations and project requirements.
* Participate in technical meetings and provide design input to project teams.
* Work independently while maintaining clear communication with the wider engineering team.
Requirements
* Degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline.
* Strong experience in mechanical building services design.
* Proven experience working on data centre or mission-critical projects.
* Strong technical understanding of mechanical systems and infrastructure within data centres.
* Experience with relevant design software, such as AutoCAD, Revit, IES VE, HAP or similar
* Ability to produce high-quality technical designs and documentation.
* Strong communication, coordination and problem-solving skills.
* Ability to work independently in a fully remote environment.
* ECSA registration or eligibility would be advantageous.

* Lead mechanical design development for HVAC and building services systems
