Your new role

The Role

As a Senior Mechanical Engineer, you'll be trusted to manage your own projects and act as the lead mechanical engineer throughout the design process.

Responsibilities

Lead mechanical building services projects from feasibility through to completion.Produce detailed mechanical designs and specifications and calculations.Carry out mechanical design calculations including heating, cooling, ventilation, domestic water and drainage systems.Coordinate with clients, architects and the wider design team.Attend client and design team meetings.Review technical submissions and ensure designs meet current UK regulations and industry standards.Mentor junior engineers where appropriate.Deliver projects on time and within budget.

This role requires someone who is comfortable undertaking mechanical design calculations, not simply producing drawings.

What We're Looking For

Essential

UK Building Services consultancy experience.Strong mechanical design experience across building services projects.Ability to independently lead and manage projects.Competent in carrying out mechanical engineering calculations.Excellent communication and client-facing skills.Full right to work in the UK (no sponsorship available).

You will take a lead role in delivering mechanical building services design across a diverse portfolio of UK projects, providing technical input, coordination, and design leadership from concept through to detailed design stages.

Key Responsibilities
* Lead mechanical design development for HVAC and building services systems
* Produce and review calculations, specifications, reports, and technical drawings
* Ensure compliance with UK Building Regulations and relevant industry standards
* Coordinate design with electrical, structural, and architectural teams
* Provide technical guidance to junior engineers and project teams
* Attend and contribute to design and coordination meetings (remote)
* Support project delivery across all design stages (RIBA stages or equivalent)

Requirements
* Degree in Mechanical Engineering or Building Services Engineering
* Strong experience in MEP / Building Services design within consultancy environment
* Solid background in HVAC design and mechanical systems for buildings
* Experience working on UK projects is highly advantageous
* Proficiency with relevant software (e.g. IES, Hevacomp,or similar)
* Strong technical knowledge of UK regulations and standards
* Ability to work independently in a remote freelance/contract capacity
* Excellent communication and leadership skills
