Designer / Design Coordinator

Salary: £40,000-£70,000 (DOE) Location: London (with site visits as required) Start: Immediate / urgent requirement Employment: Full‑time, permanent

Role Overview

A growing construction and design‑led contractor is seeking a Designer / Design Coordinator to support and manage the design process across a portfolio of commercial office, restaurant, and gallery fit‑out projects. This role has arisen due to recent team changes, and the business is looking for someone who can step in quickly and take ownership of design coordination from early stages through delivery.

The position blends early‑stage concept design input, technical coordination, and day‑to‑day management of design information across fast‑paced fit‑out environments.

Key Responsibilities

  • Contribute to concept and feasibility design for commercial interiors, including sketches, layouts, and early-stage studies.

  • Coordinate design information between architects, engineers, subcontractors, and internal teams.

  • Support or lead the design process through pre‑construction, procurement, and delivery phases.

  • Review drawings, specifications, and technical submissions, identifying risks, clashes, and opportunities for value engineering.

  • Maintain design trackers, RFI logs, and document control systems.

  • Provide design input for tender submissions and bid presentations.

  • Attend and chair design team meetings, site meetings, and client workshops.

  • Ensure all design work complies with planning requirements, building regulations, and project constraints.

  • Work closely with project managers and site teams to resolve design issues quickly and effectively.

Skills & Experience Required

  • Experience as a Designer or Design Coordinator, ideally within commercial fit‑out (office, hospitality, gallery, retail, or similar).

  • Strong understanding of construction methodology, building regulations, and technical detailing.

  • Ability to interpret architectural, structural, and MEP drawings.

  • Proficiency in design software (AutoCAD, Revit, SketchUp, or similar).

  • Confident communicator with strong stakeholder‑management skills.

  • Highly organised, able to manage multiple design packages and deadlines.

  • For candidates at the upper salary band (£60-70k): proven experience independently managing design coordination and consultant teams on fit‑out projects.

What's Offered

  • Competitive salary £40-70k, depending on experience.

  • Opportunity to influence design direction across a varied commercial fit‑out portfolio.

  • A supportive, growing team with clear progression opportunities.

  • Exposure to fast‑paced, design‑driven projects with high-quality finishes.

  • Immediate start available due to urgent business need.
