Sustainability Consultant
Location: South Africa - Remote
Sector: Workplace design and commercial interiors
THE OPPORTUNITY
We are looking for a sustainability consultant to support the delivery of environmentally responsible workplace and commercial interior projects.
You will work alongside designers, project managers, clients and suppliers to develop practical sustainability strategies, support certification processes and provide advice on materials, performance and reporting.
This position would suit someone who understands how sustainability principles apply specifically to workplace design, interior fit-out and material selection.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Develop and support sustainability strategies for workplace and commercial interior projects.
Advise project teams on sustainable design decisions and project priorities.
Support WELL, LEED or comparable certification processes.
Coordinate certification evidence, documentation and submission requirements.
Review materials and finishes against environmental, health and wellbeing criteria.
Advise on embodied carbon, responsible sourcing, circularity and material health.
Support waste-reduction, material-reuse and sustainable-procurement strategies.
Prepare client reports, presentations and sustainability summaries.
Research products, certifications, standards and emerging industry best practice.
Coordinate sustainability requirements with designers, consultants, contractors and suppliers.
Track project sustainability commitments and identify potential delivery risks.
Contribute to client workshops, internal training and knowledge-sharing sessions.
Help develop reusable sustainability tools, guidance and project processes.
REQUIRED EXPERIENCE
Professional experience in sustainability, environmental design or building performance.
Experience supporting interior, workplace, property or broader built-environment projects.
Understanding of WELL, LEED or other relevant sustainability frameworks.
Knowledge of sustainable materials, responsible sourcing and circular-design principles.
Strong research, analysis and report-writing capability.
Ability to communicate technical sustainability topics clearly to designers and non-specialist clients.
Strong organisational and project-coordination skills.
Ability to work effectively with international and multidisciplinary teams.
Professional written and spoken English.
ADVANTAGEOUS EXPERIENCE
WELL AP, LEED AP or a comparable professional accreditation.
Experience supporting or managing certification submissions.
Knowledge of embodied-carbon assessments and environmental product declarations.
Experience within commercial interiors or workplace fit-out.
Experience working with UK or European sustainability requirements.
Knowledge of whole-life carbon, post-occupancy evaluation or workplace wellbeing.
French or Dutch language capability.
