Associate Mechanical or Electrical Engineer

London | Hybrid Working | Career Progression | Future Leadership Opportunity

We are looking for an ambitious Associate Mechanical or Electrical Engineer to join a growing London-based MEP consultancy.

This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced Mechanical or Electrical building services engineer who is ready to take the next step in their career and play a key role in delivering projects, developing people and building strong client relationships.

The consultancy works across a diverse range of sectors, including residential, education, commercial, industrial and warehouse/distribution projects.

This is more than an engineering position. We're looking for someone who wants to grow with the business, take ownership of their career and ultimately become one of the company's future leaders.

The Role

As an Associate Mechanical or Electrical Engineer, you will be a senior member of the project team, taking responsibility for the successful delivery of projects while supporting and developing engineers around you.

You will work closely with Directors, Operations Directors, clients, architects and other members of the design team, helping to deliver technically excellent solutions from project inception through to completion.

The role offers significant scope for progression, with the opportunity to develop into a future Director or business leader as your experience and contribution to the business grows.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the delivery of Mechanical or Electrical engineering design across a range of projects.
  • Take technical responsibility for projects from concept through to completion.
  • Manage and mentor junior and intermediate engineers, helping them develop their technical and professional careers.
  • Coordinate engineering designs with architects, structural engineers, contractors and other consultants.
  • Attend client and design team meetings and act as a senior technical representative.
  • Develop strong and lasting relationships with clients and project teams.
  • Review drawings, specifications, calculations and technical reports.
  • Ensure projects are delivered to the required technical, programme and quality standards.
  • Provide technical guidance and support to project engineers.
  • Assist with resource planning and project team management.
  • Contribute to fee proposals, tenders and bids.
  • Identify opportunities for additional work and support the development of existing client relationships.
  • Support Directors and senior management with business development activities.
  • Contribute to improving internal processes, technical standards and ways of working.
  • Help promote the company's reputation for technical excellence and high-quality client service.

The variety of projects means you will have the opportunity to broaden your experience while working on technically challenging and interesting schemes.

Who We're Looking For

We are looking for an experienced engineer who is ready to step into an Associate-level position and take on greater responsibility.

You can come from either a Mechanical or Electrical engineering background. We are more interested in your technical ability, leadership potential, commercial awareness and attitude than simply your job title.

Ideally, you will have:

  • Strong experience within building services / MEP consultancy.
  • A Mechanical or Electrical engineering background.
  • Experience delivering building services projects from concept through to completion.
  • Good technical knowledge and a strong understanding of engineering design.
  • Experience working with multidisciplinary project teams.
  • The confidence to communicate with clients and other senior stakeholders.
  • Experience mentoring or managing junior engineers.
  • Good commercial awareness.
  • An interest in business development and developing client relationships.
  • The ambition to progress into a senior leadership position.

Chartered status or working towards Chartership would be advantageous, but is not essential.

Your Future

We're looking for people who want a career, not just another job.

The Associate position is an important role within the business and is designed for someone who wants to increase their responsibility and influence over time.

For the right individual, there is a genuine opportunity to progress towards Director level and future business leadership.

As you develop your career and demonstrate your contribution to the continued success of the business, there may also be an opportunity to participate in the ownership of the business through shares/equity.

We want our future leaders to be people who have grown with the business and have a genuine stake in its success.

Benefits

  • Competitive salary - reflective of your experience.
  • Clear career progression towards senior leadership and Director level.
  • Potential share/equity opportunity as part of your long-term career development.
  • Private healthcare.
  • Life insurance from day one.
  • Hybrid working.
  • Flexible working hours, including the option for an early start or early finish where appropriate.
  • Generous holiday allowance.
  • Professional development and support for continued career progression.
  • Support for professional qualifications and continued learning.
  • Opportunity to work on a diverse range of technically interesting projects.
  • A collaborative working environment with experienced senior engineers and Directors.
  • The opportunity to play a significant role in the continued growth of the business.

Culture

People are central to the success of the business.

The culture is focused on developing people technically, professionally and commercially, while creating an environment where ideas and individual contributions are valued.

As an Associate, you will be expected to take ownership and lead from the front
